PK Photography

Hi! My name is Peter Koppenaal. Thanks for stopping by to look at my web site.

I fell in love with photography as a teenager, and have continued to pursue the art ever since then. When I saw one of the first digital cameras back in the 90's, I knew had to have one. I have been shooting digital for more than 15 years now. I currently use Canon DSLR cameras and lenses for image capture in RAW format. My digital image development is done in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, and I use Adobe Lightroom for digital asset management. For printing and other photographic products, I have developed relationships with a select group of premier professional photography labs.

I have offered my services as a portrait and event photographer for over 12 years now. My goal is to provide each client with a customized approach to photographing their family or event. Before quoting a price, I listen to your needs and preferences. I work with you to design a plan including scheduling and logistics, locations, shot list, your preferences for viewing and sharing of your proofs, as well as your choice of album design, photo book, or print packages. I can offer advice and support in many areas such as dress, timing and coordination, lighting, and locations; all of which help to make a very important day a little less stressful for you. After your event I personally develop each image digitally - making adjustments to color, contrast, lighting, and cropping as required to show you the best image possible. Shortly thereafter, you will see a customized proof gallery on this web site which you may share with family and friends. (I will cull the out takes, or unflattering images, so you will only see the best images from your event.) Anyone with access to your proof gallery can order prints and other photographic products with the embedded shopping cart, or by emailing me with a specific request for cropping or retouching an image. If you would like an album or photo book for yourself or to give as a gift - or maybe a photo "Thank You" card - I will work with you to design a product that meets your needs.

As a former IT professional, rest assured that I maintain multiple backups of your digital images (including off-site storage) beginning within hours of your event. My long term archives will safeguard your images indefinitely. Please browse some samples of my recent work in the Event or Portrait Samples galleries, or in the Recent Images gallery. I can also provide you past client references to assist you in your decision to engage me as your photographer.

Some personal notes: Recent years have been a time of change for many people, and I have been one of them - leaving a Wall Street Information Technology career in 2001, embarking on a teaching career and launching a photography business. I currently teach Physics, Astronomy at Summit High School, and maintain my photography business. I was honored to be the team photographer for the Millburn High School Hockey team for four years, donating my services and images to the athletes, their parents and coaches. (The galleries are password protected to ensure the privacy of the athletes, however I have created a Sports "Highlights" gallery that you are free to browse).

The background image for this page is a photograph of one of my favorite places, off the coast of British Columbia in western Canada. I am a dual US-Canadian citizen, and I spend time in Canada every year.
